Roy Edward Disney, Walt Disney’s nephew, died of cancer at the age of 79. He died in a hospital in Newport Beach, California.
Disney “played a key role in reinvigorating the Walt Disney Co.,” the company said in an initial statement.
His father, Roy O. Disney, founded the Mickey Mouse empire in 1923 with his brother Walt. The junior left the company management in 2003 after 56 years of service. Most recently he was vice-chairman of the board. But even in retirement, he was still available to the entertainment giant as a consultant.
Roy Junior began his career as an editor, screenwriter, and producer. Two short films, which he was instrumental in creating, were nominated for an Oscar, the underwater film “Mysteries of the Deep” (1959), which he wrote, and his co-production “Destino” (2003).
The obituary from Disney said that Roy had helped the Disney studio into a “new golden age” with bestsellers such as “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladin” and “The Lion King” Animation lead.
How Old Was Walt Disney When He Passed Away?
Walt Disney was an American animated film producer (inventors of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck).
He was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, at the age of 65 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
How Did Walt Disney Make His Money?
After Disney made steady progress, it took a huge gamble when it decided to make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the studio’s first full-length animation. The film could have ruined Disney, who spent everything to produce it, but instead, it became a huge hit.
Disney made steady strides in the decades that followed, producing some of the most popular animated and live-action films of all time. His last major project, ‘Mary Poppins’ , combined animation and live-action footage like “Alice in Cartoonland” and is widely considered one of the greatest family films in history.
In 1955 Walt Disney opened Disneyland, a huge amusement park near Los Angeles. Walt Disney was estimated to be worth as much as $ 150 million at the time of his death in 1966, the equivalent of about $ 1.2 billion today.
The Walt Disney Company is a media juggernaut. Owned by franchises like Marvel and Star Wars, the company is an estimated $ 130 billion.
If Disney were still alive, he would probably be one of the richest people in the world.
