Haskins received numerous awards and honors, including first-team All–Big Ten, the Graham–George Offensive Player of the Year, and the Griese–Brees Quarterback of the Year.

Haskins was a devoted Christian and married. His mentor during high school and college was NFL wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. Haskins was a New York Giants fan and went by the nickname Simba, inspired by the protagonist of the 1994 film The Lion King. He used the nickname as motivation and incorporated it into his personal clothing brand, Kingdom of Pride.

The Tragic Accident

On April 9, 2022, Haskins’ life ended when he was fatally struck by a vehicle in Florida. He attempted to cross Interstate 595 on foot after running out of gasoline in his rented vehicle. Haskins was struck by a dump truck and then either run over or struck again by an SUV whose driver tried to avoid the collision. Toxicology reports revealed that Haskins had a blood alcohol level of .24 and tested positive for ketamine and norketamine.

Following the news of Haskins’ death, tributes poured in from across the football community. His teammates, coaches, and fans remembered his talent, charisma, and potential. Although his NFL career had its ups and downs, Haskins’ impact on the field will not be forgotten.
