Gwen Stefani and Carly Pearce teamed up for an unexpected collaboration during the 2023 CMT Music Awards on Sunday night (April 2). Stefani, dressed in a white and red polka dot dress, revisited her 1995 hit “Just a Girl” from her time as No Doubt’s frontwoman. Pearce, clad in all black, joined Stefani on stage to sing the second verse of the iconic track.
Teasing the Performance
Prior to the awards show, Pearce dropped by Taste of Country Nights to chat about the performance but kept the song choice and details under wraps. Fans were thrilled when the pair finally unveiled their surprise collaboration during the live event.
Carly Pearce’s Solo Performance
Earlier in the evening, Pearce also delivered a solo performance of her song “What He Didn’t Do,” which earned a nomination in the Female Video of the Year category. Additionally, she was nominated for Performance of the Year for her part in the CMT Crossroads: LeAnn Rimes & Friends rendition of “One Way Ticket,” featuring LeAnn Rimes and Ashley McBryde.
The 2023 CMT Music Awards took place at Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This year’s co-hosts were Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, adding to the star-studded event.
