East New York Season 1 Episode 13: Amanda Warren plays Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, who was promoted and is now in charge of the 74th Precinct in East New York. East New York is a working-class neighbourhood on the edge of Brooklyn going through social change and the beginning stages of gentrification. Haywood is determined to protect the community she loves with the help of her officers and detectives by coming up with new ways to do things. But first, she has to do the hard work of getting them on board. Some aren’t sure about her promotion, and others aren’t open to the changes she wants.
Chief John Suarez, a two-star veteran and mentor, is on her team. So are Marvin Sandeford, a highly respected training officer and expert on the neighbourhood; Tommy Killian, a detective who uses some old-fashioned methods of policing; Capt. Stan Yenko, Haywood’s friendly and efficient right hand; Crystal Morales, an intuitive detective who can’t be scared; Andre Bentley, a trainee from an upper-middle-class background; and Regina Haywood has a dream that she and the rest of the 74th Precinct will not only serve their community but also become a part of it.
