Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review

Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review – On Netflix, we find two types of productions. There are those series that hardly receive prior promotional attention, either because it is assumed that they will be disasters, because they are not considered a key asset in certain markets ( The Squid Game would fall into this category) or because the public is expected to find them. by itself with the help of the algorithm and simply putting them in the news of the week. But there are others that do receive the support of Netflix, with which they try to have an impact on the audience before the release date. Cowboy Bebop was one of them.

The normal thing is that, if a known or at least cult intellectual property is used, the platform takes the trouble to promote it. In August it was already announced that Cowboy Bebop would be one of the highlights of the season with a release date for November 19; In September we discovered the opening credits that showed Christopher Yost wanted to translate the aesthetics of the 1998 anime into live-action; And when it arrived in November there was the perception that it was indeed an ambitious proposal because Netflix had put the project on the radar. Another thing is that afterward, the maneuver will work.

Cowboy Bebop Netflix Synopsis

Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review

Spike Spiegel (John Cho) has long been part of organized crime. He worked for the dreaded Red Dragon Syndicate, from which he wanted to flee together with his lover Julia (Elena Satine). Events rolled over and Spike has been believed dead ever since. Little does the Syndicate know that he escaped and has since roamed the universe as a bounty hunter. At Spike’s side: Former police officer Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), who lost his job and an arm after investigating corruption in his agency, and the skillful crook Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda), who was frozen after 54 years and suddenly have to find your way in an unknown time. Their past overtakes them all. But especially for Spike, as his ex-syndicate partner.

Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review

The first weekend was disappointing. The presentation of Spike Spiegel (John Cho) and Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) as two galactic bounty hunters with a lot of noses barely made an appearance in the list of the 10 most popular series in Spain. The low efficiency of the promotion could be verified when the worldwide consumption data of Netflix was published: 21,630,000 hours of Cowboy Bebop were seen in its first three days, while a series without promotion such as the Korean series Rumbo al inferno, released that same Friday, made 43,480,000.

At the end of “Cowboy Bebop,” Spike ( John Cho ) and Jet ( Mustafa Shakir ) find themselves tied up in a church. Vicious ( Alex Hassell ) has Jet’s daughter Kimmie in his hands and threatens to kill her and the two bounty hunters when suddenly Faye ( Daniella Pineda ) appears with her spaceship and shoots the church and most of the syndicate crooks around it.

While Faye flees with Jet and Kimmie in their spaceship, Spike stays behind to tackle Vicious personally. The decisive duel is interrupted by Julia ( Elena Satine ), who shoots Vicious and incapacitates him. To Spike’s surprise, his great love now wants to become the head of the syndicate himself, which he refuses, so he also gets a bullet and falls out of the window. Julia then moves on to her plans and holds Vicious a prisoner while she rules the Syndicate on his behalf. Since the leader of the space mafia is traditionally not allowed to be seen, it is not noticeable that Vicious no longer appears.

However, Spike survives and hobbles back to the bebop, where Faye has already said goodbye to Jet. The captain of the spaceship doesn’t want anything more to do with Spike. So his ailing partner limps on until he falls over in a dark back alley and seems to succumb to his injuries.

But suddenly he is woken up by a strange child with red hair who, gesticulating wildly and enthusiastically, gives him a new mission. A so-called “Volaju” should be found before he does “creepy, bad things”. But who is this child, why is it acting so strange and why is Corgi Ein suddenly at its side?

This Is How Netflix’s “COWBOY BEBOP” Differs From The Anime

In the Netflix series, many scenarios and characters from the original series are used but are thrown together from scratch. The final episode is largely similar to the early episode 5 from the anime. In this, there is also a showdown between Spike and Vicious in a church. Some of the settings were even adopted one-to-one for the real adaptation, but have now been used for the season 1 finale.

Now you could say that season 1 of the Netflix series is not an adaptation of the entire anime, but only (with significant modifications) covers the events up to the church showdown. However, the entire storyline of Spike, Vicious, Julia, and the syndicate from the anime is already over. The template no longer offers any material for the main story of “Cowboy Bebop”, which is why it makes sense to compare the two finals – even if the Netflix series goes on.
