‘Black Mirror’ Season 6: After a long hiatus of four years, the highly anticipated ‘Black Mirror’ season 6 is finally slated for release on Netflix in June 2023. The series, which started on Channel 4 in the UK before being acquired by Netflix, is making an astonishing comeback, promising to be the most unpredictable and surprising season yet.
This ground-breaking anthology series, renowned for its dystopian narratives, is the brainchild of Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, who now exclusively collaborate with Netflix under their Broke & Bones banner.
The Delay in Renewal
The delay in the ‘Black Mirror’ renewal for a sixth season was primarily due to disputes between Netflix and the Intellectual Property (IP) owner, Endemol Shine Group.
These disputes seemed to climax when Brooker and Jones left Endemol Shine Group to start their own company. Following this, ‘Black Mirror’ went quiet. However, a landmark deal was struck between Netflix, Brooker, and Jones in July 2020, with the former acquiring a controlling stake in the new company, Broke & Bones.
However, the license for ‘Black Mirror’ remained with the old company, and any future season required an agreement to either license again or buy the rights outright.

‘Black Mirror’ Spinoff and Renewal
Before the disputes were resolved, creators of the show were optimistic about its future. There was talk of possibly casting Barack Obama in the sixth season. In 2021, it was suggested that ‘Black Mirror’ might return in a spinoff form, possibly a follow-up to the USS Callister episode from season 4.
Finally, in May 2022, Variety reported that an agreement had been reached and season 6 was in active development at Netflix.
Star-studded Cast for Season 6
The sixth season of ‘Black Mirror’ boasts a stellar cast. However, the exact episodes they will feature in remains undisclosed. Among the stars set to feature in the new season is Aaron Paul, known for his role in ‘Breaking Bad’.
Directors for Season 6
Several directors have been confirmed for the sixth season, including Toby Haynes, who is returning to direct an episode. Haynes notably directed the USS Callister episode in season 3 and has worked on ‘Andor’ for Disney+.
Production Details and Release Date
Tracking the production of the series has been challenging due to its anthology nature. However, it is known that the entire sixth season of ‘Black Mirror’ was filmed under the codename Red Book. Filming took place in various locations, including the Costa Del Sol, Harrow, and the United Kingdom.
Netflix has officially announced that ‘Black Mirror’ season 6 will release in June 2023. However, the exact release date is yet to be confirmed.
