Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Plot

Scott Lang’s life has been pretty good since he helped save the world from Thanos. He is liked and respected in San Francisco, where he grew up. He has also written a successful book about himself. Things are also going well for his girlfriend and fellow Avenger, Hope van Dyne. She now has her own business and is using Pym Particles to help the world.

Her parents, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, are just happy to be back together after Janet spent thirty years trapped in the Quantum Realm. However, Janet still won’t talk about her time there. Scott’s only complaint is that his daughter Cassie, who now lives with him and his wife Hope, has been arrested more than once for taking part in protests. After Scott and Hope get her out of trouble, she and her father get into a small fight. She says that her father is just enjoying his fame and not doing anything to help the world now that it isn’t in danger.

She also says by accident that she has her own superhero suit, but when her father asks her about it, she quickly tries to brush it off. They go to the Pym Residence for dinner, where they talk about a device called a Quantum Satellite that Cassie and Pym have been working on. They say that it is made to try to send a signal into the Quantum Realm so that people can talk. Janet goes crazy when she realises that someone could send a signal back. She orders the device to be turned off, but it ends up imploding and sucking in the five, as well as some ants that Pym was trying to make smarter. Scott and Cassie are separated from the Pym/Van Dyne family and end up in a different part of the Quantum Realm than Scott and Cassie.

Scott saves Cassie from falling to her death before facing a group called the Freedom Fighters. Meanwhile, Hope and Pym are guided through the Quantum Realm by Janet, who later brings them to Axia to meet an old friend. Scott and Cassie go through a ritual to learn the Freedom Fighters’ language.

They find out about a man who was able to take over the place where the Freedom Fighters used to live. When Janet’s friend Krylar meets the ruler’s guard, Krylar has them attack Janet’s family, which forces them to escape on Krylar’s ship. The guard and M.O.D.O.K. soon attack the Freedom Fighters as well. Scott and Cassie find out that M.O.D.O.K. is actually Darren Cross, whose Yellowjacket suit was destroyed and left him with a big head and small legs. He now has to use a hover chair.

While Scott is in jail and has to make a deal with a man named Kang to get the Multiversal Power Core back, Janet tells Hope and Hank that Kang the Conqueror was a scientist who was also trapped in the Quantum Realm. He tried to fix his Time Chair, but Janet stopped him from leaving because she saw from his ship’s engine that he had destroyed many timelines, killed many people, and hadn’t actually crashed there as she’d thought.

As Ant-Man, Scott shrinks into the blown-up Multiversal Power Core and, with the help of the Wasp, shrinks it back down. Kang steals the Power Core from them because they rebelled against him.

Kang tells Janet where he came from and how he plans to stop the Council of Kangs from putting him in exile, all while Cassie escapes from prison and frees the Freedom Fighters. Hank and the smarter ants who have also gone to the Quantum Realm are with Ant-Man and the Wasp when they meet Hank.

Cassie stops Kang from sending a message to Axia, telling everyone there to fight against Kang. Kang tells M.O.D.O.K. to kill Cassie, but when he gets close to the centre of Axia, he runs into Giant-Man. Even though they get hurt by Kang’s attacks, the Freedom Fighters and the people who live in the Quantum Realm also help defeat him. Cassie is able to beat M.O.D.O.K., and she tells Darren that he can change and doesn’t have to be a “dick” for the rest of his life. Hank calls his ants to distract him while Ant-Man, the Wasp, and Stature try to fight him.

The ants came to the Quantum Realm hundreds of years before humans did and built their own society there. Darren, who thinks Kang has been awful, gives up his life as a hero to break down the forcefield Kang had made, letting the ants attack him (with Scott uneasily declaring Darren an Avenger when Darren asks). Janet opens a way back to Earth. Scott was the last person to go back before Kang shot him away. Kang tries to kill Scott in a hand-to-hand fight, but with Hope’s help, the Power Core pulls him into it. Scott and Hope leave the Quantum Realm and look back at the happy Freedom Fighters.

Now that Scott is back home, he goes on with his happy life and plans a fake surprise birthday party for Cassie because he has missed so many of hers. Scott thinks for a moment about what Kang said and worries that he might not be dead or that the people who sent him away might now be able to get back in.

But he decides not to think about that right now and instead focuses on his extended family. The Council of Kangs calls every kind of Kang in the Multiverse because they think the exiled Kang has died. They talk about how the Avengers may need to be stopped because they affect the Multiverse and seem to have killed one of their own. Loki goes to a talk by Mobius M. Mobius about time in the 20th century. Since Victor Timely is presenting, Mobius isn’t worried, but Loki is terrified.
