Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

So-i is scared to tell Seo Yul that he has a blood parasite inside him, but she wants to take it for herself. The genius mage tells her that the parasite is eating away at the core of his energy.

He’ll die when this power runs out, which surprises the con artist. When asked about the medicine she gives Jin Mu, she has to admit that she knows him. Still, Seo Yul doesn’t care much about this as long as his secret about the blood parasites is safe, and he says he only came back to “set things straight one last time.”

After Dang-gu makes up with Cho-yeon and she, accepts the diamonds and shows Songrim’s leader that she has kept the charm that “makes two people fall in love” for the past three years, we see Park Jin try to convince Ho-gyeong that her daughter and Jang Uk look out for each other.

The kiss Bu-yeon got from her partner was no accident, and Uk letting the priestess sleep with him after finding out she kept the wraiths that usually follow him away wasn’t a coincidence either. When asked about the heavy ice stone inside him, Jang Uk makes a threatening comment about the death he wants.

While Master Lee is told why Jeongjingak is empty and how Jang Uk and Bu-yeon “had to” meet, the Jinyowon priestess wakes up and realizes she has gained another memory. The blue jade that Bu-yeon is holding soon brings back more memories, all of which show Naksu’s relationship with her Young Master.

Jang Uk tells Seo Yul that he didn’t do anything wrong when he ran away three years ago. The genius mage tells Jang Uk about the guilt-filled dreams he sometimes has in which he stabs Naksu or vice versa.

Next, Jang Uk looks for Bu-yeon, who is missing and said to be sick. Here, the monster hunter realizes—through his thoughts and what Maidservant Kim says—that he doesn’t know much about his partner and doesn’t do much with her.

So, when Uk finds Bu-yeon at the market, he watches her for a short time before taking her back to the palace. He does this to ask his future wife to tell him about her health so she can be taken care of properly.

While the Crown Prince refuses to meet with Bu-yeon because he doesn’t care who Jang Uk chose to replace Mu-deok, we watch the monster hunter and his partner “taunt” the Queen. First, he casually says that he can protect Jinyowon, and then he says that his power could make the royal’s wish to switch bodies come true.

So, the Queen takes advantage of this and carelessly let’s slip that she wants to call up another ice stone by making the land dry. This means that Jang Uk can find out about her plan to use Naksu against him to get Jinyowon, since he refuses to help the desperate royal change her appearance. The monster hunter also starts defending Bu-yeon, which could mean their relationship is changing.

As the Crown Prince thinks about how Jin Mu uses him as a tool, he heads off to meet Jang Uk’s bride. When told that his supposed enemy took care of his turtle’s water temperature, the King’s heir hesitates, hoping that it means the monster hunter doesn’t hate him.

At the same time, Bu-yeon belatedly thanks Jang Uk for cutting her tracking thread, says she will never go home again and promises to stay close to him.

But again, Bu-physical yeon’s affection is too similar to that of Naksu. So, Jang Uk gets angry, confronts his partner, and says she could be a “substitute” for his real love. “Feel free to relive another memory,” Uk says, adding a little uncomfortably that he won’t say no this time.

Still, the monster hunter’s anger starts to fade when Bu-yeon says she was trying to make her husband feel better and see if he had “space” in his heart for her.

We cut to Park Jin while Jang Uk awkwardly tries to apologize to Bu-yeon for what he did. He realizes that Bu-yeon looks like Naksu, and Maidservant Kim tells him how he treated her.

Here, he sends Dang-gu to look for more dry wells because he’s worried about Daeho’s drought, which seems to be caused by his anger. As a funny side note, Songrim’s former leader gets very jealous when the topic of Master Lee’s feelings for Maidservant Kim comes up.

In the Dark Forest, Jang Uk meets up with Master Lee again. It’s a friendly meeting, with smiles from both men, but the mood changes slightly when Lee Cheol says he “saved” and took care of Bu-yeon.

In another place, Ho-gyeong is worried when she hears that her oldest daughter’s powers are coming back. This is because she tries to get her to break up with Jang Uk. This makes Jinyowon’s leader change her mind, even if it seems like a cynical move, and instead of giving Bu-yeon a chance to be free, she offers Jang Uk a wedding approval-sized olive branch if he apologizes to her.

Once Master Lee is done telling Jang Uk about the well-draining firebird copies that are showing up and how Seo Gyeong and Seol-ran built Jinyowon to lock up this animal, Jang Uk refuses to check if the real thing is safe.

The monster hunter’s response doesn’t bother Lee Cheol, though, because he knows that his lack of interest in the Jin family doesn’t matter as long as he and Bu-yeon are “walking the same path of faith.”

After getting a practice run with Seo Yul by chance, Bu-yeon clumsily asks Jang Uk to go to Jinyowon. But there are a lot of misunderstandings in the conversation (Uk thinks this is part of what Master Lee asked for), so no agreement is reached.

So, Bu-yeon leaves with tears, while Seo Yul looks on quietly in the background.

The con man asked U-tak for information on how to get rid of the blood parasite in exchange for telling him who Bu-yeon was, but Jinyowon’s leader refused. Maidservant Kim yells at Jang Uk for turning down the chance to get back together with Ho-gyeong, while So-i is locked in the annex for going too far. Then, Ho-oldest gyeong’s daughter shows up, unannounced, with a sorry Jang Uk by her side.

Seo Yul finds the con man when he hears that So-i went to Ho-gyeong and could be in danger and that Mu-deok is the real Bu-yeon. Jin Mu gives Yun-o the job of sneaking the fire bird earthenware to the capital without being seen. The genius mage is told to use this information as blackmail to “survive at all costs.” Also, Park Jin officially asks Maidservant Kim to marry him, which she does quickly and with emotion.

Jang Uk tells Bu-yeon why he quickly asked for a room for him and his partner. He says he needs her to open Jinyowon’s gates when it gets dark. At the same time, the Crown Prince wants to stop working with Jin Mu when he finds out that the Gwanju still wants the ice stone and even wants to take the firebird for himself.

But the leader of Cheonbugwan vaguely threatens the royal, knowing that he would have to tell Jang Uk the truth about Naksu’s death to end their long-running alliance.

Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explain

Jang Uk walks with his partner while a bloody So-i laughs evilly and tells Ho-gyeong to ask other people if they know Bu-yeon is really Naksu. There, he is startled by another one of the priestess’s thoughts. This one is about sitting alone on top of a big tree and waiting to be saved, but this time it’s different.

Jang Uk sees that Bu-yeon doesn’t have her jade, which means she hasn’t taken a memory from Naksu. The monster hunter is shocked and seems confused. He thinks his partner is making him “go crazy,” so he holds the hand of the priestess one more time to end the episode.
